Valentine’s Day/Play Day

What a fun day doing Valentine activities and playing with our fifth grade buddies! We also had a Valentine’s Flower Shop in our Housekeeping Center this week, so we got to practice buying and selling flowers!

100th Day of School

We enjoyed working with the number 100 in many ways on the 100th day of school! We did 100 board puzzles.   We counted by 10s to 100 using fruit pouch tops.   We painted 100 gumballs.   We put 100 dinosaurs and unicorns on a 100 board.   We worked together to write 100 words.   We brought in collections of 100 things!

Positive Thinking with Fifth Grade Buddies

Our fifth grade buddies in Mr. Skiba’s class invited us to help them with a positive thinking project. They wanted to create a bulletin board display of positive messages in the shape of a sun. The fifth graders helped the kindergarteners to write a message on each ray.

Book Character Day

Jack from The Magic Tree House series.   Hedgie from The Mitten.   Fancy Nancy.   Dragons Love Tacos.   Blackbeard the pirate.   The Cat in the Hat.   Super Penguin!

Building Numbers

We have been working on showing numbers in different ways. We used mini erasers to make different combinations of the same number. This is an important skill that gets us ready for addition!

Gingerbread Fun

We have had a ton of fun reading gingerbread stories and playing in our gingerbread house! At Quiet Time, we can read in the house. At Centers, we can act out the story. We can bake pretend cookies. We can retell the story. Or just have fun being in the house!

Snowy Scenes

We enjoyed painting snowy scenes with our fingers at the Art Center. We added glitter… Then we added ourselves!

Color Mixing

At the Art Center this week, we experimented with mixing colors. We used red, yellow, and blue food coloring. We transferred drops of colored water from one bowl to another to see what would happen. It was also a fun way to get some fine motor practice in while squeezing the pipettes! Everyone is excited to try mixing all of the colors together next time. What will it make?

Boat Building

We talked about the story of Thanksgiving and how the Pilgrims sailed across the ocean in a big ship called the Mayflower. Then we had an engineering challenge: working as a team, choose materials to build a boat that will float and not sink! To be successful, teams had to listen to each other, compromise, and work together. They tried different materials and put back things that didn’t work well for their design. It was fun to try putting people (math counters) in the boat!

Reading and Retelling with 3rd Grade

Mrs. Curcuru’s third graders invited us to the cafeteria to share what they’ve been working on in reading. The third graders each read a book to a kindergarten student, and the next day met with us again to retell the story using puppets they had made.
