Jack-o’-lanterns

We mixed red and yellow paint to make orange pumpkins in the art center. Then we drew shapes to make eyes, noses, and mouths. We made lots of different kinds of faces on our jack-o’-lanterns!

Lines and Curves

As part of our writing block, we learned and practiced how to make different kinds of lines and curves. This will help us with both drawing and letter formation. We took those lines and curves and learned new ways to draw people, houses, and animals. We also used lines and curves in the art center to draw and paint. You can draw anything if you know lines and curves!

Centers

Centers is one of our favorite times of the day! Here’s what we’ve been up to:

Centers

Here’s what we’ve been up to in centers this week… Working on our trash to treasure projects Making 3D shapes with magnetic rods Building with blocks and Legos

Habitats

We completed our study of animal needs and fact writing with an engineering challenge. Working in teams, students had to build a habitat for their animal.

Field Trip

We had so much fun on our trip to the Children’s Museum!

Valentine’s Day/Play Day

What a fun day doing Valentine activities and playing with our fifth grade buddies! We also had a Valentine’s Flower Shop in our Housekeeping Center this week, so we got to practice buying and selling flowers!

Snowy Scenes

We enjoyed painting snowy scenes with our fingers at the Art Center. We added glitter… Then we added ourselves!

Color Mixing

At the Art Center this week, we experimented with mixing colors. We used red, yellow, and blue food coloring. We transferred drops of colored water from one bowl to another to see what would happen. It was also a fun way to get some fine motor practice in while squeezing the pipettes! Everyone is excited to try mixing all of the colors together next time. What will it make?

Halloween Activities

We used number cards to count and add eyes to monsters. We made torn paper mosaics to display in our hallway. We played Tic-Tac-Toe with Halloween counters . We made words with candy corn letters and matched letters on a cauldron. We used Halloween stickers to inspire our writing. What a fun month!
